Warmth comes from keeping the wet water away from the skin.
I use a full blown paddling drysuit from OS Systems, it breeds confidence in my ability to survive when it all goes wrong.

Cutting a wetsuit to make it into a Farmer John/Tank Top type garment will work in a pinch, but you'll be gritting you teeth for 10 minutes and hyperventilating heavily as the ice cold water pours into it on a wet exit. Only then will you warm the water between you and the wetsuit. Try puttin one on when you left it outside your tent in 40 degree weather...ugly !! |
